falling in love all over again

September 22, 2010

did you know that today marks the autumnal equinox?  say that to anyone and they’ll be impressed.  to mark the change of seasons here are some things i love about fall…

  • maybe i’ll stop sweating.  seriously, this summer has been out of control.  i can only manage 7.53 minutes in the sun before melting into a pool of grossness.
  • sweaters!  make mine fair isle…or cable knit.
  • the smell of burning leaves.  growing up in the village there was a strict ban on this sort of behavior.  maybe it’s the thrill, the excitement of someone breaking the rules, but i love the smell of burning leaves.
  • almost as much as i love decorating for halloween and thanksgiving.  sometimes, when i’m feeling crazy, i like to mix the two holidays together.  oh yes, i was a pilgrim twice for halloween.

that's a keeper.

  • apple pie.  cherry pie.  maybe even pumpkin pie for good measure.  fall means pie to me.  butter, sugar, and warm, ooey gooey fruity filling is all you need to keep you warm throughout the fall months (and fatten you up for the coming hibernation.  humans don’t do that?).
  • socks.  if i’ve told you once, i’ve told you a trillion times.  socks are the it trend for fall.  watch out, j.crew, here comes dad.  and the man is lookin’ for a deal.
  • family (cue the collective awwwww here).  it’s not often that we all gather around a dinner table and share yams, stories about the good old days or occasional insults.  but during the fall we’ve got ample opportunity thanks to the holiday season.  i’m looking forward to seeing my family- whether it’s during my travels for work or when i belly up to the thanksgiving table.  fall is a time for family.  and cherry pie.

what do you love about fall?
