happy holidays

December 19, 2013

here’s what i find ridiculous:

happy holidays.

i have received no fewer than five (WOW) happy holidays messages from companies, colleagues and even my alma mater this week.  i understand that they are trying to be sensitive to everyone’s holidays.  but hanukkah ended two weeks ago and ramadan is still 9 months away.  so don’t even pretend that you are celebrating those holidays when you send me an e-card playing christmas carols today.  these are not everyone’s holidays that we are celebrating.  this is one specific holiday.  and that is christmas.

if you wanted to send me a ramadan card, i’d happily accept it (and any sugary treats) come august.  if you wanted to wish me a happy hanukkah two weeks ago, then right back atcha!  but this week is time to wish a merry christmas.  until it’s time to wish me a happy new year.

happy holidays!  season’s greetings!  merry chistmas.

this is how “happy holidays” makes me feel

Nice post! I have written a Christmas themed piece too, give it a read and let me know your thoughts in the comments!
