little sweet

forgive me, readers, for i feel i have messed up a smidge.

today i baked banana walnut chocolate chunk bread.  it’s my favorite.  mom used to make the muffins all the time and they made me happy as a sweet little monkey.  but it’s hard.  giving up sweets for lent and still baking, that is.  and that’s where things got a little blurry.

this definition of sweets, does it include granola bars?  what about if they’re special k bars?  does it include vanilla yogurt?  i mean, that’s basically ice cream.  or graham crackers?  they’re crackers after all.  or what about banana bread batter?  without the chocolate chips…

that’s what i thought.  i messed up.  and now i’m fessing up.  no more licking the banana bread batter from the bottom of the bowl.  sweet little monkey pinky swear.

not to worry…i also had several weak moments on wednesday of this week but i’m reconciling with God and my lenten promise because it was my first real birthday in 4 years. so i ate a cupcake at lunch, a brownie after work AND cake/ice-cream after dinner.

    Here’s what I think:

-granola bars are safe…except the ones with chocolate chips/chunks–they’re a no-no. the special k bars have just the slightest “yogurt” drizzle, so you can’t really count that as “icing.”
-if i ever brought matt a heaping bowl of vanilla yogurt trying to pass it off as ice-cream, he’d probably throw it back in my face and beat me over the head with the spoon.
-graham/animal crackers are both off limits. i say if you can’t eat it with cheese on top, then it’s not a cracker, it’s a cookie.

Here’s to the next 37 days!
