i heart cheese

February 2, 2012

did you know…

  • wisconsin produced 2 billion pounds of cheese last year
  • wisconsin has 1,290 licensed cheesemakers- more than any other state
  • the average american eats more than 27 pounds of cheese per year and more than a ton of cheesy goodness in their lifetime
  • it takes 10 pounds of whole milk to make one pound of cheese, 12 pounds of milk to make one pound of ice cream and 21.2 pounds to yield a pound of butter (no wonder it’s so expensive!)
  • the average dairy cow produces 5 to 6 gallons of milk per day
  • wisconsin produces more cheddar, american, mozzarella, brick, muenster and limburger cheeses than any other state

that’s something to be proud of.  and it’s something i love.
