facebook.  gchat.  twitter.  blogs.  it’s easy to pretend to be someone that we’re not to the unassuming public, because no one will know the difference.  lately it seems that every time i hop on twitter or peruse some of my favorite daily’s that i require a dose of pepto bismol.  these people make me nauseous with how phony and fake and dreamed-up they make their lives out to be.  i didn’t realize i was reading the blog of a disney princess…i thought you were a real person.

but as my mom would say, i shouldn’t waste my time worrying over it.  as the culprits certainly aren’t wasting their pretty little, head-in-the-clouds, fairy tale time worrying.

i admit.  i douse my own blog posts with a fair amount of sarcasm and sparkle and, dare i say, wit.  i dream and hope and wish on falling stars that shiny red-soled shoes will land on my doorstep.  there are days when i’m rooted in reality.  and there are days my head is in the clouds.  it’s supposed to be fun.  but proposing yourself to be a silly, materialistic snob is not fun.  and all you end up looking like is a silly, materialistic snob.

for guidance and to clear my little head, i turned to emily post.  she, after all, must know what to say about this.

“manners are made up of trivialities of deportment which can be easily learned if one does not happen to know them; manner is personality—the outward manifestation of one’s innate character and attitude toward life…. etiquette must, if it is to be of more than trifling use, include ethics as well as manners. certainly what one is, is of far greater importance than what one appears to be…”

though i may appear to be silly and frivolous from time to time (ok, all days ending in y) i hope that i am more than that.

well said!!! there is definitely a difference in writing positively about the good things going on in your life and, only writing about THINGS.
