make new, keep old

December 24, 2011

we’re currently huddled over a batch of cinnamon buns, teaching my 90-something year old grandma the intricacies of facebook, and debating whether the kohl’s parking lot is going to be a death trap.  we’ve already made two trips to the grocery and picked up the elements of grandma’s newest christmas eve casserole.  the presents are unpacked and wrapped and under grandma’s christmas tree, which twinkles with the glitter of age old ornaments.

there’s something so comfortable about tradition and the past and reliving it every holiday season.  i know to expect egg bake on christmas morning.  and the same tattered stocking hanging on the mantle.  it’s like grandma’s tree.  it’s old vintage but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sparkle.

here’s to a little sparkle ’round every christmas tree…new or old.
