bright

December 9, 2011

people complain that cities are big and impersonal and lonely.  but even when i’m on my own i see every set of headlights on a cab as a person catching a ride home.  i see museums ablaze and know they’re full of  tourists admiring pieces of our country’s past.  a bus blows by and inside it’s bright cavity, i spy young professionals eager to loosen their tie or kick off their heels.  glowing shops are teeming with customers, picking up a few necessities (or luxuries).  the lights change to red and we’re all waiting for something.  i love the lights.

on the streets of d.c., i may be on my own, but i’m never alone.
